Lynsey Mulder and Shonda Smith founded Cover Your Assets for one simple reason – they want to protect people from experiencing what their friends and family endured after their homes burned to the ground. Their friends and family lost everything. They did not have an inventory list of their valuables. They struggled to recall what they owned and lost; their emotions and stress preventing them from clearly remembering everything. Lynsey remembers standing with her friend, looking at what had been her family room and was now ashes, struggling to recall what had been there the day before.

“That’s when it struck me that this could have been so much easier for them, if only they had made a list of everything they owned and safely stored it somewhere,” Lynsey recalls.

Shonda’s neighbors lost an out-building and all the building’s contents, critical to their business. Her neighbors believe they were able to recover only about 40% of the lost value – they simply didn’t have the proof they needed to provide to their insurance company.

These experiences sparked Cover Your Assets. Recognizing the opportunity to provide a critical service, Lynsey and Shonda started Cover Your Assets in central Iowa to serve as their clients’ memory in the event of disaster, theft and death. Cover Your Assets’ primary goal is to provide a hassle-free solution so our clients are secure knowing that they can continue providing the same quality of lifestyle to their families – even when the unthinkable happens.
